Although Nicole Mary Kidman (her full birth name) was born on June 20, 1967, in Honolulu, Hawaii, and the Kidman family then moved immediatley to Washington DC where they stayed for three years, she was born to Australian parents Anthony and Janelle.

The family then returned to Australia where the young Nicole grew up in Sydney.

At age 16, Nicole landed her first movie role in the 1983 film Bush Christmas, followed by a lead role in BMX Bandits the same year.

In 1986, Nicole Kidman won her first Australian Film Institute acting award for her role in the television miniseries Vietnam. This was to be followed by a number of other awards including the Golden Globe for her work in To Die For (1995) and Moulin Rouge (2001). She received both the Golden Globe and Academy Award for The Hours (2002).

She returned to Australia in June 2006 for her marriage to singer Keith Urban. Together they issued a joint statement: "We are very happy to be back in Australia. We have come home to celebrate our wedding with our family and friends."

The Nicole Kidman-Keith Urban wedding took place on June 25, 2006, in the beachside Sydney suburb of Manly.
